In September of 2016 members of the Centerport Garden club Horticulture Study Group visited The Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park in New York. It is a part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has, not only Art ,but also has replicas of medieval herbal gardens. With the guiding of an excellent docent the members learned a great deal about the history of medicinal plants which are still in gardens today.
In August of 2016 some members of the Centerport Garden Club visited the Baiting Hollow Hummingbird Sanctuary and enjoyed an excellent lecture on the habits of hummingbirds and their floral preferences. As usual the trip included an excellent luncheon.
In August of 2016 the Centerport Garden Club held their monthly meeting and enjoyed a docent led garden tour of the Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River NY.
Each year members of the Centerport Garden Club share with the community plants from their own luxurious gardens. Customers know to come early since the quality of the plants is excellent!
The women of the Centerport Garden Club plant, weed, deadhead and maintain the Rose Garden at the Vanderbilt Museum in Centerport New York. Each week throughout the growing season member volunteers show up every Monday morning at 9AM to keep these gardens in prime condition for the many visitors who visit the grounds.
The Centerport Garden Club Civic Beautification projects include the Grist Mill area. Our members clean up the park each spring and maintain plantings to enhance our community!
During May, 2015 we had 2 active plant sales. At one, we sold our own plants to the community and at the second, we bought new plants to replace them.
