One of the benefits of being a member of the CGC is the amount of trips taken together to explore various aspects of gardening and design. This year a trip to see the Chihuly Show at the New York Botanical Gardens was on the agenda and enjoyed by all.
In September of 2016 members of the Centerport Garden club Horticulture Study Group visited The Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park in New York. It is a part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has, not only Art ,but also has replicas of medieval herbal gardens. With the guiding of an excellent docent the members learned a great deal about the history of medicinal plants which are still in gardens today.
In December of 2015 the Horticulture Study Group of the Centerport Garden Club went to see the 18th Annual International Botanical Art Show hosted by the American Society of Botanical Artists & The Horticultural Society of New York at the New York Design Center. Followed by lunch at Trattoria Belvedere ( 165 Lexington Ave. between 30 & 31 Street) and then an exciting shopping expedition to Kalaustyan’s (123 Lexington Ave between 28th & 29th Street), a landmark for fine specialties and foods since 1944.

A heartfelt “Thank you” to all the members who in October supported our trip to the High Line park in New York. We had a perfect day, not too sunny, not too cold. Even though we did not stay as a single tight group, it was fun to meet up with different smaller groups and discuss what flowers, trees, or grasses caught our eyes.
